Bangladesh has a population of 160 million. Smaller than the state of Iowa, it is one of the world’s most densely populated countries and also one of the poorest; 49.8% of the population lives below the poverty line and 36% of the population lives on less than $1 a day. Bangladesh has a history of devastating cyclones and floods, which have damaged crop production and increased food insecurity. The World Food Program estimates that more than 45 percent of children suffer from stunting due to malnutrition. Bangladesh sits in one of the most disaster-prone areas of the world. Frequent cyclones and floods have killed thousands of people and impeded economic growth for decades.

Grameen Swapna’s Child Sponsorship Programme is the one of major program to children living in poverty. It aims to disciple, equip and enable children to develop into fulfilled and responsible adults Through sponsorship, Grameen Swapna is partnering with families and communities to help meet immediate needs and promote lasting changes that will strengthen communities and move families toward self-reliance. Each year sponsors receive updates about their sponsored child and their community. Sponsors also learn about the child’s continuing activities and new accomplishments so when they correspond with their child, they can encourage them in their education, hobbies and endeavors.

How you can help
When you sponsor a child in Bangladesh, you’ll be providing the resources for real, long-term change. You’ll get two letters a year from the child you sponsor, and updates from the country programme to tell you how the money you are spending is changing the community your child lives in.
