Street Children Development

The life of street children in Bangladesh is full of anguish and uncertainty. Many children in our country separated or abandoned by their families often forced to choice street life and discover the world as discriminating and hostile to them. Dhaka is the capital city of Bangladesh. Problems of rural unemployment, landlessness, river erosion, natural disaster, family conflict and weak law and order cause rural families to leave their homes in search of better prospects in the urban centers. Many of the 9 million people who live in Dhaka are very poor. Some of those who live in greatest poverty are the street children. There are up to 1 million street children living and working on the streets of Dhaka. The lack of education and educational opportunities makes street children particularly vulnerable to trafficking, child labour, sexual abuse, exposure to HIV/AIDS and other STIs, and police violence. These children remain one of the most overlooked and vulnerable groups of children. Their protection and education are frequently neglected by governments, either due to inadequate legislation or obstacles related to the implementation of that legislation. Street children live in Dhaka city who lack the basic rights to food, cloth, education, treatment and protection. Grameen Swapna run street schools and 24-hour drop-in centers so that street children can have access to education, basic medical care, and skill training.
